“Beyond Displacement: Building Safe Spaces of Conviviality”
A Salon Dinner
Hosted at The ADMIRALS RESIDENCE
In honour of our resident artists: Alicia Blam • Lauren Bickerdike • Athenkosi Kwinana

Over the past weeks, the house has been humming with quiet work — footsteps across old floors, voices rising and falling in conversation, windows left open to the sea and the sound of people remembering.
Here, three artists — from Spain, Ireland, and South Africa — have been listening deeply.
To each other. To this place. To those who feel Muizenberg as home.
Together with the community, they’ve been asking difficult, beautiful questions:
Where do we feel safe?
Who gets to be heard?
What kind of space allows us to be whole?
Through art, video, installation and shared spaces, they’ve begun weaving a collective portrait of sanctuary — not as a place to hide, but as a place to gather, to witness, to belong.
And now, we invite you in.
Join us for an evening of slow, generous dining — five courses, served by candlelight, around a table made for lingering. This isn’t a performance. There’s no script. Just food, presence, and the kinds of conversations that leave something behind.
We won’t tell you what a safe space is.
But perhaps, for a few hours, we’ll feel it.
Location: 64 Windermere Road, Muizenberg
Date: 15 August 2025
Time: 18:00 for 18:30
Seating is limited. RSVP essential.
Come as you are.
Bring your listening. Bring your story.
There will be room for both.

Hello and hi,
I am Zanna.
Gerrit will be your host on Friday and I will be your salonnière for the Safe Spaces Artist’s Dinner.
What makes a space feel safe? Non-judgement of myself; my therapist told me that self-consciousnees is not being aware of yourself but being aware of what others might perceive in you. It is self-judgement and when I let go of that judgement (is this good or bad) I feel safe to express my being authentically.
Really looking forward to chatting with everyone next Friday. It’s going to be memorable!
Thank you for the invitation. I would love to join
“Living in a place where the people who belong to the land but have no agency; means it is important to create spaces of belonging. Our stories and cultural practices connects and grounds me and that is my safe place “ Traci Kwaai
For me a safe space is going for a walk out in nature, whether it’s by the sea, through a forest, around a lake or up the mountains or if the weathers too rainy just a blanket and a movie
Thank you for the invite. We would love to join ( Mike + Ina)
A safe place for me is not physical but emotional. I feel safe when I feel seen and heard.
